"Both listening to and playing the Native American flute is a profound and transforming experience of sound and vibration." - Kathryn Twinfeathers

Welcome: Kathryn Twinfeathers is very excited to be back in Arizona after 15 amazing months in New York City becoming an Interfaith Minister. Her love for this beautiful ancient instrument and its effect on the human spirit has driven Kathryn to offer reasonably priced classes to ages 10-100 (or more) all over the East Coast and Southwest, or wherever "called" to teach. The Native American flute has been popularized by many contemporary artists like Mary Youngblood and R. Carlos Nakai, but can be played by almost ANYONE, yes, even you! With just a little bit of practice and some patience, you can enjoy your own music and be thrilled by your new ability to relax without any electronic device stuck in your ear. The oral tradition of the teacher to student/s is still the most effective way to learn, but doesn't take a lot of time to get started, like it does with most other instruments, and is very portable for traveling to beautiful places to play.

"It (my experience with the flute) became not trying to make the flute sound like the animal but the very
spirit of the animal being present and taking one on a deep journey...Felt I was being shown that the flute has a far more subtle and spiritual purpose than the western perspective imagines music has, that it is a
sacred tool of meditation that calls the spirit of the animal sounded."

"I'm already getting music out of it (the flute)"- Sam's  1st day with new flute

"If the feelings that overcame me when I first lifted that flute out of it's casing and held it to my heart were love....well then I've been missing out on something wonderful this entire liftime!" -
Marie Soffel

Background:  The Native American flute has achieved some measure of fame for its distinctive sound, used in a variety of New Age and world music recordings. The instrument was originally very personal; its music was played without accompaniment in courtship, healing, meditation, and spiritual rituals. Now it is played solo or along with other instruments or vocals both in Native American music and in other styles.  It is one of 3 original instruments found in most indigenous cultures along with the drum and rattle, and early flutes were made of bone, such as eagle bone.
